The New SOL and CSOL for 2016-17 Will Come Into Effect from 1 Jul 2016

The new Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL) will come into effect on 1 July 2016 for the new financial year 2016-2017. The composition of the SOL is reviewed annually, in order to identify the occupations which would benefit the Australian market demand and economy development in the medium to long term.

There are nine occupations will be removed from the new SOL and added to the new CSOL from 1 July 2016:

  • 233611  Mining Engineers (excluding Petroleum)
  • 233612  Petroleum Engineers
  • 234912  Metallurgists
  • 251311  Environmental Health Officers
  • 251312  Occupational Health & Safety Advisers
  • 411211  Dental Hygienists
  • 411212  Dental Prosthetists
  • 411213  Dental Technicians
  • 411213  Dental Therapists

There are two occupations will be added to the new SOL from 1 July 2016:

  • 251912  Orthotist or Prosthetist
  • 25 2711  Audiologists

From 1 July 2016, people who want to apply for the Skilled Independent Visa Subclass 189, Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa Subclass 489 which will be sponsored by an eligible relative in a designated area, and Temporary Graduate Visa Subclass 485 Graduate Work Stream, will need to make sure their occupation is on the new SOL list.

For students who are studying above nine occupations which will be removed from the new SOL list, they may still have chance to apply for Temporary and Permanent visa to live and work in Australia after they graduate.
