Transitional Arrangements for Existing 457 Visa Holders

Significant changes to Australia’s skilled visa programs will be implemented in March 2018. 457 visa will be abolished and replaced by TSS visa system.

Transitional arrangements will be put in place in March 2018.  For existing 457 visa holders or applicants who already applied for their Subclass 457 visa before 18th April 2017 and would be granted later, they can still apply for permanent residence visas through TRT stream of the Subclass 186 or 187 visa after March 2018.

Transitional Arrangements:

  1. Occupation requirements remain the same, as long as the nominee continues to work in the same position for the same employer as approved for their subclass 457 visa;
  2. The age requirement will remain at less than 50 years of age;
  3. The work experience requirement through TRT stream for Subclass 186 or 187 PR visa will remain at two years.

However, they will be required to meet the English language requirements and Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) to be introduced for subclass 186 and 187 visa from March 2018.
